In 1941, Hitler’s propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels invited 36 writers and 1 woman writer from 17 European countries to a month-long trip through Germany ending in Weimar. Acknowledging the power of literature, Goebbels’s plan was to create a European Writers Union in favor of Germany’s view of the world. When literary fame overrides humanity, a trip to glory turns to a trip to Hell.
