My 1st Documentary
“The Granddaughter” is a feature-length documentary about returning to places that remember more than people do. Its protagonist, Ewa Heller, was smuggled out of the Warsaw Ghetto as a two-year-old child. Now 85 and a psychotherapist, she revisits the spaces of her earliest life, including the former Bersohn and Bauman Children’s Hospital. She is accompanied by Masza, a historian and the film’s narrator. At the center of the story stands Ewa’s grandmother, Dr. Anna Braude-Hellerowa, the hospital’s wartime director. The film is an intimate reflection on intergenerational trauma and inherited memory.
