CIA investigator Fred Jones is dispatched from the USA to Abu Ghraib prison (Baghdad’s central prison), occupied by the US army in April 2003, during the second Iraq war.
He interrogates Corporal Charles Gardner, the only conscious witness to a mysterious attack on the Abu Ghraib prison a week earlier, followed by the escape of an Iraqi detainee, Ali Abbas.
This attack resulted in the mysterious death of 12 American soldiers, by cerebral haemorrhage, with a further 12 American soldiers still in a state of coma and therefore unable to speak.
Gardner thinks there was only one assailant, which leaves Jones perplexed.
He tells Jones that he was about to interrogate prisoner Ali Abbas, when he heard screams and gunshots at the other end of the prison.
