My 1st Documentary
The documentary film “Weil wir es müssen” (Because We Have To, Germany, 42 min., 2025) is a cinematic search for social responsibility and attitudes within the German population in the face of the war in Ukraine. It focuses on two people who are deeply committed to the Ukrainian struggle for freedom. The film explores the question of why opinion on military support is so strongly polarized in Germany in particular.
The main protagonists are Bamberg-based war photographer and photojournalist Till Mayer, who has been reporting regularly from eastern Ukraine since 2017, and Pirmin Styrnol, founder of the humanitarian aid organization Gemeinsam Europa e.V. Their perspective is complemented by renowned Eastern European historian Dr. Franziska Davies from LMU Munich.
